The VTCT Level 1 Award in Styling Women's Hair is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in the basic skills of finishing the hair.

You will learn a variety of blow drying and finishing techniques with a selection of electrical equiment and finsishing products. The purpose of this qualification is to develop basic skills in hairdressing and provide you with the foundation for further learning, and to enable you to perform your own salon services.

The units of study are :

Styling Womens Hair

The course will teach you to develop the creative skill of finishing hair. You will learn how to identify the capability of your client’s hair which will allow you to choose from a range of products, tools and equipment to complete the finish. You learn and then need to demonstrate the ability to blow dry, straighten, curl, use products and then finish your client’s service by giving aftercare.

This course is completed over 1 days. The majority of this time will be spent gaining and learning practical techniques and carrying out treatments in our salon working on real clients with some work initially carried out on head blocks. All assessments will be on real clients.

There is also a theory content to ensure that you have the underpinning essential knowledge for each unit. Home study is required to ensure that you meet the necessary criteria through our Online Classroom OlivElearn.

This Course is fully accredited by VTCT - Vocational Training Charitable Trust, is a Government-approved awarding organisation.

Requirements: You will need to attend in a Plain Black T-Shirt and Black Trousers. You will also need a selection of brushes & combs.

This course is ideal for those wishing to take a step into hairdressing and show a creative skill for styling hair for photographic work, bridal and other ocassions. It works wonderfully for Makeup Artists who wish to do bridal hair as part of their overall service.

It is especially ideal for pre-16s students, beginners and adults who wish to pursue an introductory career into hair dressing.

Throughout the course you will be assessed by a combination of one assignment, one test and four practical assessments of your work in our salon; and you will compile a portfolio of evidence and looks achieved.

You will need a set of brushes & combs to work with; you will also need a real long hair head block to practise with at home. For your assessments you will be expected to bring in your own hair accressories to enhance your work.

Units in this qualification have been mapped to the relevant NOS (where applicable). This qualification is regulated on the Regulated Qualifications Framework.

This qualification is approved and supported by the Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Authority (HABIA), the standard setting body for hair, beauty, nails and spa qualifications.
