The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement recognises the role of assessment in competence and vocational environments such as NVQs, VRQs, Awards, Certificates and Diplomas; it replaces the A1\A2 and D32\D33 awards. It is designed to support the assessment and quality assurance of all new QCF qualifications. This qualification is accredited on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). This qualification is approved and supported by the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS), the sector-owned body for the learning and skills sector.

The qualification is a practical-based qualification intended for those who assess both occupational competence in the work environment, and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace (i.e. workshop, classroom or other training environment).

The course consists of three units:
Understanding the principles and practices of Assessment
Assess occupational competence in the work environment
Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding
