The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-Up is a technical level qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed theatrical media make-up artist working with performers to a high level of occupational ability, providing hair and make-up services in the media, theatre, performing arts, fashion and photographic industries.  The units of study are:

  • Fashion and Photographic Makeup
  • Airbrush Makeup
  • Camouflage Makeup
  • Media Makeup
  • Style and fitting Postiche
  • Prosthetic Application

This course is completed over 20 days. The majority of this time will be spent gaining and learning practical techniques to carry out the treatments and applications in our studio/salon. There is also a theory content to ensure that you have the underpinning essential knowledge for each unit.

 

This is course which is completed in up to 20 days over an extended period of between 3 - 6 months, giving you time to carry out research and projects and to also practise the techniques learnt at home. The majority of this time will be spent gaining and learning practical techniques to carry out the treatments in salon working on real clients. 

 

There is also a theory content to ensure that you have the underpinning essential knowledge for each unit. Home study is required to ensure that you meet the necessary criteria through our Online Classroom OlivElearn. 

 

This Course is fully accredited by VTCT - Vocational Training Charitable Trust, is a Government-approved awarding organisation.

 

Requirements: You will need to attend a Salon Tunic and Trousers.   You will also need at least two sets of professional makeup brushes and a selection of body and facepainting brushes.

  • This course is ideal for those wishing to enter the industry as a  makeup artist working in the theatre, films and photographic industries. 

     

    Throughout the course you will be assessed by a combination of short assignments, projects, research and practical assessments of your work; and will compile a portfolio of evidence. 

     

    You will need at least two sets of professional makeup brushes and a selection of body and facepainting brushes, special effects tools etc - you tutor will discuss this with you prior to the start of the course..

     

    No product kit is required for this course however you will be expected to purchase products throughotu the course to ensure that you can complete home studies and assignments - your tutor will discuss this with you at the start of your course.

     

    This qualification is approved and supported by the Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Authority (HABIA), the standard setting body for hair, beauty, nails and spa qualifications

     

    This qualification is also based on hairdressing and beauty therapy National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK's lead beauty therapy professional association (The British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology - BABTAC) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a professional theatrical media make-up artist.
